Why Yoga: Although I first fell in love with the vinyasa/power style and the actual asana (or poses) and hatha (physical part) of yoga, when I learned how dynamic the entire practice is and why it works for every body, I couldn’t not fit it into my life.

3 words to describe you: composed, kind & intuitive.

Favorite Pose and why: Balasana – Child’s Pose. I like this pose for many reasons; to rest, to breathe, but most of all, I love that the sanskrit of ‘bala’ is strength and that this posture can easily be overlooked by those of us who strive to push the edge of our practice on and off the mat. Sometimes resting is what we really need.

First Yoga Class: Bikram. Never had I sweat so much in 90 minutes, or felt self-acceptance so radical. I knew yoga had the power to change me and I loved that. I completed teacher training at Corepower Yoga in Boulder, Colorado. A combination of vinyasa (or flow) and power yoga, the Corepower style focuses on alignment, flow, and breath. Modeled after Baron Baptiste's methods, this power style likes to incorporate music as well as creative sequences to get your mind out of the studio and into the breath. You will be brought to intense parts of your practice where you are certain to test your edge.

 

Since becoming certified in 2008, I have had the privilege of studying with Jonny Kest, Bryan Kest, & Ashley Turner. My students continue to be my greatest teachers though. By stepping on our mats, we begin to soften our hearts and let go of the wounds the world has dealt us. We learn that our breath has the power to help us love ourselves more.
