Jessica Ewart

Home Town: Oxford, MS

Sun sign: Libra

Favorite Food: Anything curry

I am thankful for: My daughter Zoe!  I've been sharing my mat with her for 6 years in our home practice and she teaches me all the time to see the joy in every moment.

Why Yoga:  It taught to me to stop looking around and instead to look inward.  We arrive with everything we need to be happy; yoga reminds us how to tune in that reality.

3 words to describe you:  Attentive, Funny(I hope) and Dedicated

Favorite Pose:  Wheel.  It's such a huge opening in the heart. It feels great in my body and elevates my mood instantly.

First yoga class:  Mommy/Baby yoga was my first studio class after years of practicing at home alone.  It got me out of the house after giving birth and led to a love of studio classes.  Practicing in a group setting enhances the experience.  It's a great example of synergy.

Hobbies besides yoga: Running, mountain biking, writing and I also love experimental yoga (slackline, acro, on a SUP!)

Since beginning my yoga journey in 1999, I have studied with Bryan Kest, Ashley Turner, Dolly Stavros, Kathryn Budig, Sue Reynolds, Sara Mingus and countless others.

My personal practice is very physical and I certainly love to sweat but my teaching is defined by my love of philosophy. The classes I offer are centered around a philosophical or spiritual theme that is tied to the active physical postures and movements.

Yoga is the perfect outlet to explore our connection to other humans through creative and individual expression. You will leave my classes feeling the physical effects in your body but hopefully you will have gained some personal insight into the larger and more universal issues that tie all of us to one another.

In my private life I am a mother to my greatest teacher, my 6 year old daughter. We have two dogs, one cat, three fish and one frog. I reside in a wooded cabin with these lovely beings and my beloved husband, Reid, a local rocker.

These days, my life is defined by peace and unapologetic happiness. My goal is to help in bringing the power and freedom of self-awareness and unconditional love to all who seek it.

Whether leading a class on the mat, on a SUP board or on a slackline, I try to always incorporate FUN into this discipline that has changed my life.
