April Turk

Hometown: Huntsville, AL

Three words to describe me: Hardworking, nurturing, Mom

Favorite pose: Whatever is most challenging at the moment. It means I've uncovered a new opportunity for creating balance and personal growth. I constantly encourage students to explore the poses that they "love to hate".

Favorite food: Peanut Butter

First Yoga Class: With a lady named Paula Ott at a small gym called "Real Life Fitness for Women." Paula and Kim (the gym's owner) were instrumental in nudging me down the path to teaching yoga.

I am most thankful for: First, my family. Second, that both of my professions (Respiratory Therapist and Yoga Teacher) allow me to connect with individuals in deep, sometimes life-altering ways. I am constantly finding areas where the seemingly different professions complement and strengthen each other.

Hobbies besides yoga: Camping, hiking, running, reading, spending family time with my husband, daughter, and dogs.

Since starting down the path of yoga student in 1997 and yoga teacher in 1999, I have always included a variety of yoga styles in the trainings and workshops I choose. While I find beauty in all styles of yoga, Anusara has continued to resonate with me very deeply. I am thrilled that after 12 years of practicing, studying and teaching yoga, my life path has brought me to a place where I am able to immerse myself in deeper studies and ongoing traing in the Anusara style with Gina Minyard of Atlanta Yoga.

My heart-centered flow class is a playful Anusara-inspired class focusing on slow-flow yoga, heart-centered affirmations, and helping each student find their own path to the intrinsic goodness and joy that resides and radiates out.
